How it works
Name it and pick the day.
Pick any day up to 25 years out. Then seal it. Once it’s sealed, the date can’t change, and the capsule can’t be deleted unless you delete your whole account, so pick the day you mean.
Fill it together.
Invite up to three people, now or later. Until the date, everyone adds photos, video, voice notes and letters from their own phone. Nobody can look inside, not even at what they put in, and nobody can edit or take out anything inside. The one exception: someone who deletes their FM2Y account can take their own posts with them.
Open it together.
On the date, it opens for everyone on it at once. After that, it’s a private timeline you can all keep adding to, and new posts wait for your OK, like on any timeline, until you turn that off.

The rules
the fine print, in plain words
- Your first time capsule is free. One per account, ever. It’s used up when you seal it, even after it opens.
- Room for you and three people. Everyone needs their own free FM2Y account, and FM2Y accounts are for people 18 and older.
- 5 GB of space. When it’s full, uploads stop. You can’t delete anything while it’s sealed, so the space you’ve used stays used until it opens.
- It opens on the day you pick, up to 25 years from now.
- Sealed means sealed: nobody sees inside until the date, including you. Nothing in FM2Y can open it early.
- Nobody can edit or take out anything inside while it’s sealed. The one exception: someone who deletes their FM2Y account can take their own posts with them.
- Once it’s sealed, the date can’t change, and the capsule can’t be deleted unless you delete your whole account.
- Nothing waits for approval while it’s sealed, so invite people you trust. After it opens, new posts work like any timeline, and you can turn approvals off in settings.
- It doesn’t use up your free timeline. You can have both.
Then the day comes.
Everything inside appears at once, for everyone on it: every photo, video, voice note and letter anyone added. Each of you gets a notice in FM2Y, and it’s waiting on your dashboard the next time you sign in. A note at the top marks the day it opened. We email everyone on it the day it opens.
Then it stays open, with no public profile, no feed and no search. It becomes a timeline you can all keep adding to, so the capsule you opened becomes the start of the next chapter. New posts wait for your OK, like on any timeline, until you turn that off.
Questions
Is it really free?
Yes. Your first time capsule is free, with no card and nothing to cancel.
I already used my free timeline on my kid. Can I still make one?
Yes. A time capsule doesn’t count against your free timeline.
Can I peek?
No. Not you, and not anyone on it. Nothing in FM2Y can open it before the date.
Can I change the date?
No. Once it’s sealed, the date stays. That’s also why the latest date is 25 years out: so a typo can’t seal it for a century.
Who can add to it?
You and up to three people you invite by email, any time before the date. They need a free FM2Y account, and they must be 18 or older. Invites that haven’t been accepted count toward the three until they expire after 7 days.
Can my kids be in it?
Not with their own accounts. Record them on your phone and add it yourself.
What if someone adds something they shouldn’t?
Nothing waits for approval while it’s sealed, and you can’t take anything out until it opens. Invite people you’d trust with the last word.
Can we take something back out?
No. While it’s sealed, nobody can edit or take out anything inside. The one exception: someone who deletes their FM2Y account can choose to take their own posts with them.
Can I remove someone?
Yes. Anything they already added stays sealed inside until the date, unless they delete their FM2Y account and take their posts with them.
What time does it open?
Overnight. In the US that’s late the night before in the West and the early hours of the day further east. The countdown on the capsule shows the exact time where you live.
What if I delete my account before the date?
You can hand the capsule to a co-admin on it first. If there’s no one to hand it to, it’s deleted with your account and never opens.
Can I make a second free one?
No. It’s one free capsule per account, ever, even after the first one opens. You can still join any capsule someone invites you to.
How much fits in 5 GB?
Photos are kept at full resolution, up to 50 MB each. Videos can be up to 500 MB, and voice notes up to 10 minutes. Photos and voice notes go a long way. A few long videos fill it fast.
